Here is some of my music. These are all demo recordings I’ve made over the years. There are songs and instrumentals, along with a couple of old curiosities. I wrote and arranged everything, and I played all the instruments, unless otherwise stated.
I’ve never tried to make my music commercially and I’ve steered clear of the music business – I may be allergic. I’ve gigged a lot and played with some amazing musicians, but always within a local community. That’s had some advantages. I’ve been able to explore my own way of writing and playing. I don’t really believe in genres. They are a marketing tool more than anything else. You can certainly hear the influence of the blues and country music that I often listen to, but I don’t try to fit into any particular style. I studied music as a mature student, after 20 years of playing regularly in bands and making recordings. I took the opportunity to study classical composition alongside the jazz and other options available to me. It greatly expanded my range. Funnily enough, these days I’ve reverted to a much simpler manner of writing. I’ve included one of my student compositions here – a short piano trio – just for the fun of it.
